God is always reminding us of moves we should be making in our lives. These moves are to help us make our lives more about God and the people around us and less about ourselves.
Thankfulness is an area where we should be spending a lot of time. I understand the difficulty of being thankful when we are overwhelmed, beaten down, or just plain discouraged. But these are the times when working on being thankful IS the most important.
I find it easy to say thank you Lord when all is well, to praise him and smile and be all happy. But the Lord in His wisdom shows us in his word that when we are struggling, to be thankful is so very necessary.
It does not have to do with feeling thankful. It has to do with expressing it, saying it, whether we feel like it or not. There is a saying in the recovery world, “fake it till you make it”. I like this saying because though it’s not right on, it reminds us that, at times, we need to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do.
I find that God has used thankfulness so many times in my life to take me from a bad place and put me in a good place. My life verse(s) is Philippians 4:6-7. Our Lord reminds us that we can AND have the ability to go to Him with anything and everything WITH thanksgiving. If He tells us to do this it must be possible.
So……when all is not well, my suggestion to you is to try it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. God will honor what he says. He will help us if we do what He tells us to do. It may take some time.
In Psalm 40 David had to wait for the Lord to lift him out of the pit, but David WAS lifted out, and we can be lifted up and out also. It is difficult at times to pray this way. I know. I have gone through this many times.
It is not easy, but obeying our Lord is always the way to go. Work through the Philippians verses and see God do some awesome work in your life.
God will be glorified, those around you will greatly benefit and you will be blessed as well as thankful.
but in everything by prayer and supplication
with THANKSGIVING let your requests be known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding
will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
