Because He Lives

I pray that you all had a great day celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The good news is this: HE IS STILL RISEN and the celebration continues!  Yesterday, as I was reflecting on Christ’s resurrection, I was reminded of an old song that I had sung hundreds of times as a child in church…

BECAUSE HE LIVES…

God sent His Son
They called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal and forgive
He bled and died
To buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives

Because He lives
I can face tomorrow
Because He lives
All fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
My life is worth the living just because He Lives

The words “because He lives” resonated in my heart as this is a timeless & sustaining truth to hold on to during these troubled times.  I started to think of all that it means to me as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ that He is truly alive.  And when I say alive, I don’t mean that He’s alive in our memories.  No, he is truly alive.  The angel told the two Marys on that first Easter morning Matthew 28:5-6“Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.”  I love how the Apostle Peter, an eyewitness of Jesus’ Resurrection, said it in 1 Peter 1:3, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the Resurrection of the Jesus Christ from the dead.”
Living hope, how awesome is that?!?

As I was thinking about the song, Because He Lives, God brought to my mind truths in Scripture that I like to think of as spiritual anchors.  Corrie Ten Boom once said, “In order to realize the worth of the anchor, we need to feel the stress of the storm!”   I pray these truths offer you hope and encouragement today.

BECAUSE HE LIVES…

  • Our lives here on planet earth have meaning and purpose!  God has invited each believer to participate in his redemptive plan to reach the world with the Gospel message. Read 2 Corinthians 5:11-21
  • No believer in Jesus Christ will ever walk even the darkest of valleys on this earth alone!  Read Psalm 23, Matthew 28:20 & Hebrews 13:5
  • God holds me, He keeps and sustains me and He will one day take all those who belong to Him to the great celestial shore!  We often hear well-meaning people say to us, “Hold on to God.”  And yes, hold on and don’t let go, BUT even when our grip weakens (and it will), the greater truth is that God holds on to us!  Read Isaiah 41:10, Ephesians 2:6-7, 1 Peter 1:3-5
  • We can have victory over sin!  I’m not just talking about victory over sin in the sweet by and by.  The Bible says that those struggling with sin & life-controlling addictions can find true freedom in Christ.  Yes, we will always struggle in this life with the presence of sin and the temptation to sin, but we are free from the penalty and power of sin through the blood of Jesus!  Read Romans 1:1-19, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

What are some of the truths of Scripture that you holding on to today?

Keep shining His light until we meet again!
