Here are some highlights of this year’s high school retreat:
- 46 High School students attended
- Our guest speaker was Paul Karus, a youth pastor from Connecticut and a very close friend of Pastor Seth’s. Paul was born and raised on Long Island and is a product of the Northport Baptist Church. He came through Pete Jansson’s youth ministry and it was on a COW retreat that Paul got serious about following Jesus.
- Our challenge for the week was taken from 2 Corinthians 5:9-10. For far too long we have told our kids, that if they got good grades, went to church, didn’t have sex and stayed away from drugs that they would be living the Christian life. But is that really what it’s all about? Are we known more for what we don’t do vs. what we are called to do as Christians? It’s time to raise the bar for our teens! Our theme verse tells is that we as Christians will stand before Jesus as our Judge and give an account for what we did or didn’t do with the Great Commission, the Great Commandment, our time, talents & treasures. So how should that affect our daily lives? Verse 9 tells us we should make it our aim to live lives that please Jesus. What does that kind of life look like? That was the focus of our discussion at COW12. Paul did a great job playingoff this theme by challenging us to count the cost of following Jesus, defining our relationship with Him, asking the question daily- was Jesus pleased, and owning our faith and living for Jesus RIGHT NOW!
- Please continue to pray for our teens as they live lives that please Jesus!
