…casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
What a gracious invitation from the word of the Lord! Some things we notice right away:
- It is assumed that we all have anxieties. If you are anxious, you are not alone.
- We are told that all of them are to be cast unto the Lord–not just big ones that seem too large a burden to carry.
Commentator Warren Wiersbe says: According to 1 Peter 5:7, we must once and for all give all of our cares—past, present, and future—to the Lord. We must not hand them to Him piecemeal, keeping those cares that we think we can handle ourselves. If we keep “the little cares” for ourselves, they will soon become big problems! Each time a new burden arises, we must by faith remind the Lord (and ourselves) that we have already turned it over to Him.
The best part of the verse: …because he cares for you. This verse Is not just a psychological exercise where we feel better as we visualize ourselves casting off problems. This is the actual transfer of our anxieties to the One who is powerful enough to handle any anxiety of ours, and who cares for us!
