EAST NORTHPORT, N.Y., Oct. 2, 2015. Summer is officially over and college students are adjusting to their routines or settling in for the very first time. Island Christian Church, a Suffolk County evangelical church with campuses in Northport, Port Jefferson, and Holbrook, weighs in on the impact of this life change and the importance of keeping faith.
A recent survey suggests that 3 out of every 4 high school church-attending seniors will walk away from their faith as they enter their college years. The college students and young adults from the Island Christian Church community seem to be in the crosshairs of temptations by the world and the forces of evil.
“Here at Island Christian Church, we would like to change that statistic,” says Gregg Lamoureaux, who leads the college ministry at the church, called Crossroads. He goes on to say, “We see our college students and young adults as the future of our church and society in general.”
The college ministry caters to college students and young adults, between the ages of 18 and 28. In fact, people do not actually have to be attending a college to be a part of the group. People in trades or in the military are certainly invited to be a part of it. The main criteria is the age demographic, which happens to be the period in a young person’s life when most major decisions are made, like career choices, choosing a husband or wife and starting a family. Indeed, the goal of Crossroads is to challenge our young adults to grow and get nurtured in their faith, so that they can go out into their everyday lives and make a difference for themselves, while bringing glory to God.
Crossroads meets every Sunday evening at 7:00 at Island Christian Church, 400 Elwood Rd, East Northport, NY. The meetings are filled with contemporary and upbeat worship, led by an incredible worship team made up by people who attend the group themselves. The messages are challenging and thought provoking and the fellowship is warm and welcoming. Young adults are invited to come and check it out!
The community at Island Christian Church is pursuing the kind of church life set forth in Scripture. The foundations of this church are Spirit-led worship, relevant teaching, authentic relationships, unceasing prayer and compassionate provision for the needy. We hope you will join us as we strive to demonstrate a compelling faith that will touch the lives of individuals within our larger communities.
