When you’ve taught Sunday School for nearly 50 years, you have a deep impact on the families of the church and community. Adeline Bruno (Mrs. Bruno to pretty much everyone around here) was honored at our Mother’s Day service. When Pastor asked how many congregants were either taught by her or have had children taught by her, there were hundreds of hands raised. Mrs. Bruno didn’t just teach Sunday School, however, she also served as a teacher and a director at the Preschool, a department head at VBS, and a nursery worker for Ladies Bible Class. Health issues preclude her from continuing to serve in these capacities, but she remains a faithful friend and mentor to so many in the congregation.
Proverbs 31 is a favorite Mother’s Day passage, but this year verse 28 it seemed especially apt, as she received a standing ovation from the congregation – so many of whom had been her students: “Her children rise up and call her blessed.”
