1. What is the difference between a Life Group, a Growth Group, and a Support and Recovery Group?
A Life Group is one that typically meets from house to house, two to four times a month, from September to June and is led by a trained layperson who receives continued oversight and support from our pastoral staff and groups coordinator. Group meetings are normally two hours and include time for worship, Bible discussion, accountability, and prayer, as well as informal times to build relationships with others in the group. Many groups also participate in service projects or social events.
A Growth Group is a group that meets weekly for approximately 10 weeks, studying a particular topic of the Christian walk. These are often DVD-based studies, and most often the group leader hosts each week.
Support and Recovery Groups are designed for those with specific life needs, such as addiction, bereavement or divorce. These also last for approximately 10-12 weeks.
2. Who leads these groups?
Groups are generally led by a pastor or a trained leader from our congregation.
3. Why are they called Life Groups?
Loving God and one another
Investing in the Kingdom
Evangelizing our community
4. What is expected of me if I join a Life Group?
- To attend faithfully
- To be ready to give ministry to others
- To be ready to receive ministry from others
- To encourage others towards love and good deeds
5. Can I bring my children?
Each LIFE Group is individualized in its makeup. Some are geared for couples with young children; in other groups, only adults attend. At sign-up time, the listing of groups contains, for each group, its policy on the attendance of children. If you have specific questions or needs in this area, please speak to our Group Coordinator.
6. Am I required to host a meeting of my LIFE Group?
You are not required to host, however, we find that the “house to house” format encourages the members to take ownership of their group, and it alleviates one family from having the burden of hospitality every meeting. Remember—the emphasis is on the LORD, not on the size of your home or the abundance of refreshments you offer!
7. How do I sign up?
Once a year, in August & September there will be online registration and in-person registration (at the Special Events Center at your campus) for Life Groups. If you want to visit one before you commit, you can contact the leader to do so. Growth Groups and Support and Recovery Groups start twice a year, in September and January. Curriculum will be presented at those times, and you can sign up at the Special Events Center to participate.
