Thanksgiving is a special holiday. We give thanks to God for the many blessings he has given us. Hopefully, we get to spend time with family and friends. We get to relax and reflect on the many blessings that we have received this year. That day immediately gets interrupted because the best sales for the Christmas gifts that we want to buy for friends and family (and let’s face it, even ourselves) start before the day is over.
Giving Tuesday was started in 2012 as the answer to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Sometimes we get caught up in the commercialism of it all. Giving Tuesday gives us the opportunity to reset our priorities after what often seems like a crazy weekend. Last year, on Giving Tuesday, over $274 million was given to philanthropic and charitable organizations.
In 2 Corinthians 9, Paul talks about generosity and the importance of it. In 2 Corinthians 9:7 it says “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver”. He goes on to talk about the many benefits of giving, take some time to read the whole chapter.
The reason God has us give is to help us chase away our own selfishness. Why not give today to support the church that you love.
Our Thanksgiving offering this year is being given to support our missionaries. You can give to our Thanksgiving offering- CLICK HERE to give to the thanksgiving offering online.
You may have already given on Thanksgiving Eve, but we would like to raise an additional $2,000 online on Giving Tuesday. Why don’t you consider giving $20? If we can get just 100 people to join in, we will reach our goal!
Let’s endeavor to have giving hearts this season. Let’s be cheerful givers, together.
