Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Pastor Ayars would tell a mid-week visitor, “You can’t see the church today, only the church building.”
The church can never be defined by a structure nor confined to a building. The church is not an organization, but an organism.
So when we are prohibited by circumstance from meeting together, the Kingdom of God will prevail because the Holy Spirit of God inhabits every true believer. Our bodies are literally temples of the Holy Spirit.
For Old Testament Jews, worship centered in Jerusalem, at the temple, at certain times of the year. For us, it is our great honor to be the living temples of God’s Holy Spirit all the time and in whatever place we happen to be.
So while we forfeit, for a while, the benefits of being together as a congregation, let’s remind ourselves that God does not live at 400 Elwood Road, but in us.
I believe as we let this truth come alive to us, it will elevate how we live every aspect of life.
God’s grace to you all,
