Island Christian Church Participates in Operation Christmas Child

EAST NORTHPORT, N.Y., Nov. 4, 2015 — It’s that time of year again—the holidays are approaching, and families are eagerly preparing for this year’s Christmas. Island Christian Church, a Long Island evangelical church with campuses in East Northport, Holbrook, and Port Jefferson, believes that children all over the world need to know how much God loves them. So, once again, Island Christian Church will be partnering with Samaritan’s Purse and its mission, “Operation Christmas Child” to help make Christmas memorable for those in need.

Operation Christmas Child relies on good-hearted people coming together to help others. Through donations of small toys, school supplies, and hygiene items, Island Christian Church will be able to make a contribution that will affect countless numbers of families this holiday season.  Families who attend the church can sign up to attend a packing party on November 21st.  Tables stacked high with donated items will fill the church. Everyone will grab empty shoeboxes, and the filling will begin!

After all of the shoeboxes are filled, members of the church will pray—a prayer will be held over the boxes for children who will be receiving them. By praying, the volunteers will provide the hope needed for these children to have a wonderful Christmas.

Each year, Island Christian Church sets a goal; last year’s goal was 400 boxes filled. This year, the church hopes to exceed this goal—the main goal simply being to help as many children as possible. To accomplish this, ICC has created a challenge. The church challenges all of its attending families and friends to pack boxes on their own.  Families will try to pack as many boxes as possible, knowing that the more boxes they pack, the more children they can help.

ICC’s Northport location is a local collection point for other local churches and individuals to drop off their boxes during collection week (November 16th-23rd). All three of the church’s campuses (East Northport, Holbrook, and Port Jefferson) are participating in this event, and they will have boxes and information sheets provided by Samaritan’s Purse. The boxes will then get shipped to Samaritan’s Purse at the end of collection week, who will then send boxes to needy children all over the world.

Christmas celebrates God’s greatest gift to the world (John 3:16). ICC gladly teams up each year with Operation Christmas Child because they know it is their mission to send the message of God’s love and the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to every child.

The community at Island Christian Church is pursuing the kind of church life set forth in Scripture. The foundations of this church are Spirit-led worship, relevant teaching, authentic relationships, unceasing prayer and compassionate provision for the needy. We hope you will join us as we strive to demonstrate a compelling faith that will touch the lives of individuals within our larger communities.
