EAST NORTHPORT, N.Y., Sept. 9, 2015 — Island Christian Church, a long island evangelical church with campuses in East Northport, Holbrook, and Port Jefferson, holds VBS (Vacation Bible School) each year. During the program, the church raises money for children throughout the world so that they, too, can learn about the love of Jesus.
Many of the children who attend VBS complete tasks in order to raise money to reach their fundraising goals through a variety of activities. These activities include completing extra chores or having a lemonade stand during VBS week. The goal of Island Christian Church’s Mission project is to not only raise funds towards meeting fundraiser goals, but also to raise awareness of their church’s Biblical teachings as well.
Children of all ages participated in the VBS Missions Project this year. One of their youngest participants, Aiden, set himself some much larger goals in raising a more money on his own prior to VBS week. He requested that his friends make donations instead of giving him presents for his 7th birthday. Not only did he raise half of what his fundraising goal was, but he raised awareness among his friends and community for the continued need in Asia as well. This selfless act was also a teaching and a lesson in it’s own of “ Acts: 20:35 It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
The community at Island Christian Church is pursuing the kind of Church life set forth in Scripture. The foundations of this church are Spirit-led worship, relevant teaching, authentic relationships, unceasing prayer and compassionate provision for the needy. We hope you will join us as we strive to demonstrate a compelling faith that will touch the lives of individuals within our large communities.
