Christ Our Passover

March 2, 2014 Message Title: Christ Our Passover Part 9 of The Scarlet Thread series Pastor Ayars Scripture— Exodus 12:1-6 & I Corinthians 5:7 [12:1] The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, [2] “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you. [3] Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers’ houses, a lamb for a household. [4] And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb. [5] Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, [6] and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight. *********************************************************************************************** [7] Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Main Idea—Christ is Our Passover Lamb The Passover was instituted in the midst of the plagues on Egypt, and preceded the plague of killing the firstborn of every Egyptian while He spared the Israelites who participated by faith by obeying God’s instructions to slay a lamb and sprinkle its blood. 1. The Passover Lamb changed their calendar (v. 2) Our calendar changes as well when we are born again into the family of God—our spiritual birthday. 2. The victim—a lamb (v. 3) 3. The lamb’s characteristics: Male—gender matters to God; He specifies roles for genders One year old—not a baby lamb, or an old one, but in the prime of life W/o blemish—Christ our Passover was sinless 4. Kept four days before sacrificed (v.6) As he lamb was tested during these days for his suitability, Jesus was tested in these final days of His life, and found sinless and spotless. 5. Lamb was killed by: whole assembly, all of us, shall kill “it.” Because we all are needing salvation. 6. Place of the Lamb’s killing: (Deuteronomy 16) Not in your towns, but God-established: Jerusalem Application Time— A survey done of adult Americans showed that 82% believe that they are saved by good works. Do you run into that kind of thinking in your interaction with the people in your life? How does this message help you to understand God’s true plan? How does this message help you to witness Christ to those who believe their good works will be sufficient to get them to God? What does this truth say about God’s commitment to us?
