Your Wedding Day: a most special day in your life. We at Island Christian Church want to assist you in making this occasion a truly joyous one. Our concern is not only for the ceremony and reception, bur for the lifetime together that follows it. We want both of you to prepared for a successful and happy marriage.
“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24
God Himself designed the marriage relationship and blesses it. In order to be faithful to His design, God requires that marriage be a permanent relationship between spiritually unified individuals. Spiritual union does not mean that both have the same denominational background. It does mean that both trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior, have been baptized in water by immersion as a testimony to their commitment to Christ, and seek to live according to the Word of God. At least one should be an active member of Island Christian Church.
Believing that God has ordained spiritual authority for our guidance and protection, couples who are married at Island Christian Church need to have the blessing of their parents.
Counseling: Building Strong Marriages and Families
After determining with one of the Pastors that the wedding can be held at Island Christian Church and an available date has been set, counseling arrangements must be made.
Pre-marital counseling is provided for each couple desiring marriage to assist in building a vital, healthy marriage and family.
The duration of this marriage preparation depends on the individuals involved, as we seek to tailor our counseling to the couple’s needs. This is a personal, two-on-two time with a trained, Christian couple who will walk you through a thorough curriculum that covers God’s plan for marriage, communication, roles and responsibilities, the elements of a successful marriage and family, and other relevant topics.
The Ceremony and Reception: A Time for Testimony and Celebration
Your wedding day is a unique opportunity to delight in the Lord and one another and to appreciate the goodness of the Lord in leading you together. It is also a time to share a meaningful event with your loved ones and friends and to celebrate in a festive way.
With respect to the wedding ceremony itself, we are happy to work with you to make the it a personal expression of your love for the Lord and one another. Since there are certain aspects to the marriage vows and covenants that are mandated either by Scripture or by New York state, these will be supplied by the Pastor who is performing your ceremony.
The church facilities at the Northport and Port Jefferson locations are available for wedding receptions. We believe that a consistent Christian testimony includes not only the wedding itself, but the reception following as well. The Pastor who is meeting with you for pre-marital counseling will go over specific guidelines for receptions to be held at the church.
