2 Timothy 2:18-19
…They destroy the faith of some. Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are His,”…
Let’s be honest, the state of our faith and trust in God is being revealed in these hard times. When circumstances are not looking good and life’s journey has taken its toll, the foundations are being shaken. It has been difficult to live with hope when my feelings are telling me differently. Nevertheless of how we fail, our God is working on our behalf. Nevertheless the worst circumstances, we are able to keep on running. With God, we are not victims to circumstance.
The Bible gives us the bridge between our adversity and our victory within a single word. This powerful word is “nevertheless”. Adding nevertheless to a sentence changes the entire context, making what was once negative into a positive. Here is an example:
“I was tired and thirsty but NEVERTHELESS I found the strength to keep running”.
Think of nevertheless as meaning “despite all that has happened”. Here are some ways that the powerful word of “nevertheless” will strengthen your faith.
1. Nevertheless, God Is Still Holding Me
When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart, I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you. Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand.
Remember that God has chosen you before you ever chose Him, you are His very own. Your human failings cannot derail His plan for your life and He guides you with His hands.
2. Nevertheless, I Choose To Rejoice
Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet (nevertheless) I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
The best response to adversity is to worship our God who is unchanging. This determination to continue to worship in trials demonstrates God’s worth and allows you to stay connected to the very source of all blessing.
3. Nevertheless – The Righteous Grow Strong
Nevertheless, the righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger.
Doing what is right and seeking God’s ways keeps His people steady and growing. You are headed on the correct path when you are looking towards God.
No matter what you have gone through, are going through, or will go through … Nevertheless you can know where your help will come from:
Psalm 121: 1-2
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
