Although we sometimes think of “prepping” in terms of who’s hosting Easter dinner, the prepping I’m referring to is of a spiritual nature.
We all know that any holiday preparation is work; especially in coordinating family invitations, meals plans, activities and the like. But as Christians, how are we preparing ourselves spiritually, as we consider that Easter celebrates the single most significant event in history— which actually changed history, and for that matter, our own hearts?
Here are a few things that will help prepare your hearts to bring honor and glory to our Lord— and thereby helping us to make the most of this time of year.
It starts with prayer. In your prayer time, allow extra time to consider our Lord’s suffering, death and resurrection. Here’s a few Scriptures to read and meditate over, which chronicle the events of that first Good Friday and Easter Sunday: Matt 20:17-19, Mark 8:31; John 12:23-25; Matt 27:33-37; Mark 15:29-32; Luke 23:26-31; John 19:5-6; Luke 23:44-47; John 19:29-30; Mark 15:46-47; Matt 27:65-66; Mark 16:5-7; Luke 24:6-7; John 20:16-18; Acts 3:15, 4:33.
As you read through these verses, open your heart and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you through them. What is He revealing? Also, use this time to examine yourselves as to what in your life may not be pleasing to God. Confess it and ask Him for strength in aligning your will and actions to what pleases Him.
Also, please take this time to pray for unsaved loved ones, neighbors and co-workers. Pray for the communities served by the campuses of Island Christian Church. Pray for who God would have you invite to church on Easter Sunday. It’s the easiest time to bring people to church! Remember— it’s the Year of Sowing! Visit our Easter page for more info about Easter week, at our 3 Campuses.
We depend on God’s provision for our church and the ministry here at ICC. This is brought about in large part by the prayers of His people. That’s you! We are so grateful for the partnership we enjoy in this wonderful work here at ICC.
As you prepare for this marvelous Easter Sunday through prayer, reflection and taking opportunity to speak to others about the hope that is in you, know that your pastors will be praying for you as well! Here’s to an abundantly fruitful Easter season!
