Over the last week or so, upon the news of the death of the Rev. Billy Graham, social media has been abuzz with so many wonderful tributes to the man who was called “America’s Pastor.”
According to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association website, over a 60-plus year span, Rev. Graham preached the Gospel to more people in live audiences than anyone else in history—nearly 215 million people in more than 185 countries and territories—through various meetings, including Mission World and Global Mission. Hundreds of millions more have been reached through television, video, film, and webcasts. Graham wrote 33 books, many which became top sellers. His autobiography “Just As I Am,” published in 1997, appeared simultaneously on the three top best-seller lists in one week. A favorite of mine, “Peace With God,” is so powerful and yet so simple, a game-changer for me in my faith journey.
I believe God has been using his passing as a way of reminding people the world over of the temporary nature of this life— as well as the eternality of the next. One of the things that blessed me was reading through some of the various quotes attributed to Dr. Graham.
Here are a few of my favorite:
“Take one day at a time. Today, after all, is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.”
“I’ve read the last page of the Bible, it’s all going to turn out all right.”
“The cross shows us the seriousness of our sin—but it also shows us the immeasurable love of God.”
