Many are using some free time this season to go apple picking. The experience is great, plus we get the enjoyment of eating those tree-ripened, freshly picked apples. These apples, once small and green and hard, are now plump, and red and bursting with flavor.
Is a hard, green apple pleasing to the Lord? Of course it is–if it is June! Over the summer however, it should have ripened into ripe and red goodness.
Let’s draw instruction from this:
- Everyone starts their Christian life as a spiritual baby. But God never intended that we stay that way! He wants us to mature into Christlikeness as we walk with Him through life. Question–Am I ripening? Or stuck in spiritual infancy?
- Others of us worry that we are never pleasing to the Lord. We make the mistake of comparing ourselves to others. Just as a hard green apple is fully pleasing to the Lord in June, we can be pleasing to the Lord–everyday–as long as we are surrendered to Him and growing toward maturity. Learning from nature: The apple tree is doing its nourishing thing, the sun and rain bring growth, and ripeness and redness are coming in the fulness of time. Maybe spiritually speaking, you are not there yet, but if we are abiding in the Lord, He is getting us there in His time. Question–Am I making unwise comparisons with others? Am I surrendered to the Lord and trusting in His process to bring me to maturity?
