Unless the Lord builds the house those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. Psalm 127:1-2
The beginning of Psalm 127 is a great example. The Lord is not telling us that we cannot build our lives without Him. He gives us the freedom to decide. Either He is doing the building, or we are. He is just letting us know that if we decide to do it on our own it will be a waste of time. No mincing of words here. God is very clear about the results of our lives depending on who the builder is.
I am amazed however that even after reading this verse that people will still decide to keep God out of the picture. Whether we are talking about building our lives or even the day to day maintaining of our lives, which the second part of our verse addresses, we can go out on our own and mess everything up if we so choose.
The good news is we do NOT have to do things the wrong way. We can choose to let the Lord, the one who knows us and cares for us so deeply be in charge of our lives.
For me, it is a matter of looking at the truth of what God says, making a decision to obey Him and then…taking the steps to follow through. And, for the following through, I need to spend time with the Lord in order to let Him be my strength… I can NOT do it effectively in my own strength. I must believe God, to the point of turning my life over to Him daily, hour by hour and sometimes even minute to minute.
So, I ask you, who is building your life? Who is leading the way through your day? Is it the Lord or is it you?
I leave you with a great verse that contains instructions and promises.
Blessings to you all,
