EAST NORTHPORT, N.Y. Nov. 6, 2015. There is a ministry of Island Christian Church, a Long Island Evangelical church with campuses in East Northport, Port Jefferson, and Holbrook, called “Jehovah Jireh.” This is Hebrew for “God will provide”. Indeed, its mission is to reach the heart of people with the fullness of the Gospel by showing God’s love in outreach to their physical needs. This involves meeting those who are in need and in difficult situations, and assisting them in finding a solution to their immediate need. By doing so, we can share the only real solution to their problem–a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
So every November, near Thanksgiving, Jehovah Jireh provides scores of turkey baskets to needy families within the church and outside, in the community. Turkey basket recipients must have a genuine need, and they can call the church office to arrange for their basket, which includes a turkey, a box of stuffing mix and trimmings. It also includes a new Bible: food for the spirit. In addition to Thanksgiving, Jehovah Jireh meets the needs of those lacking material possessions like coats and blankets, and other practical day-to-day necessities. Each year, the ministry collects coats and blankets; as well as holding a toy drive for children living near our church who may not experience the joy of Christmas. The ministry also provides food cards for those needing groceries. Jehovah Jireh is one way of how God uses the hands and feet of His people to meet the needs of others.
The community at Island Christian Church is pursuing the kind of church life set forth in Scripture. The foundations of this church are Spirit-led worship, relevant teaching, authentic relationships, unceasing prayer and compassionate provision for the needy. We hope you will join us as we strive to demonstrate a compelling faith that will touch the lives of individuals within our larger communities.
