VBS is So Much More Than ‘Fun’

Vacation Bible School at Island Christian Church

To all who prayed and to all who rolled up their sleeves and volunteered for ICC’s biggest outreach of the year- we say, “thank you”!

While we whole-heartedly believe that our VBS is the very best in the WORLD, we truly know that it is only because of the One behind it all; without Whom, we could do nothing! Sure, we have the best, most committed, heart-all-in volunteers. We have the most excited and energetic kids in attendance. We have a leadership team that is organized and vision-focused; but it is our awesome God who provides the super-natural empowering that makes VBS a success- year, after year, after year. We give Him all the glory!

This unique ministry is changing not only the hearts and destinies of the children who attend, but of children on the other side of the globe. It’s a story that only a good and loving God can write. Our little VBS – a dedicated week each July – over the last 4 summers, has raised nearly $50,000 to help in various areas of Central Nepal as it recovers from the devastating 2015 earthquake.  How remarkable! What’s more, is because of what this money has been able to give back to these communities (schools and an orphanage) a Christian Church and fellowship has sprung up in this far corner of the world! The people of Nepal want to know this Jesus, who moves the hearts of these strangers from America, to help them and show them God’s love. We have met their practical needs and, in doing so, earned their trusted respect and the privilege of addressing their, far more vital, spiritual needs. People are believing in Jesus and being baptized in His Name.  Praise God!

What an amazing story of the power of God and the simple gift of children.  A generation of children from Long Island believe that together, with God, they can change the world for the better- and a generation of children, in the foothills of the Himalayan mountains, believe that the God of Heaven cares for them and that their lives and their futures matter to Him. What a wonderful story God is writing-it’s always bigger and better and more blessed than we can ask or imagine. It is humbling to be a small part of it.
