As Christmas approaches with lightning speed, it is good for us to consider what even prophets of old have said concerning this miraculous event of the birth of the Savior. For that, we look at the prophet Isaiah with his messianic message of hope to a remnant of a nation who has forsaken their God, amidst treachery and blatant disobedience (Isaiah 1:4).
In Isaiah 9:6, the prophet makes this amazing statement about he coming Messiah, Jesus Christ:
“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Note, he says, “His name shall be called.” This speaks volumes of the nature of the relationship the Messiah has with his people, and how they call upon him for various reasons and needs!
He is our WONDERFUL COUNSELOR, He is “A Wonder of a Counselor.”
He is our MIGHTY GOD, He is our “Champion,” our “Valiant Hero.”
He is our ETERNAL FATHER, He is forever eternal— the “Father of Eternity.”
He is our PRINCE OF PEACE, He will have a reign characterized by peace.1
So what’s in a name? It’s Jesus, as the Scriptures say, “who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Heb 12:2).
Know that this “Child” who was born stands ready to be all this and more to all who call on His name!
