The Ultimate Recue Mission

Luke 19:1–10, tells the story of Zacchaeus, a wealthy, despised tax collector whose encounter with Jesus transforms his life. Set within Luke’s “Travel Narrative” (Luke 9:51–19:27), this passage is Jesus’ final personal interaction before entering Jerusalem—marking a turning point in His journey to the cross. Zacchaeus climbs a tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus, but the real miracle is that Jesus sees him first. Despite being rejected by his community, Jesus calls Zacchaeus by name and invites Himself into his life, initiating a rescue, not a reward for good behavior.

This message draws a powerful parallel between Zacchaeus and us. Just as he was lost in greed, shame, and isolation, many of us today are overwhelmed by the pressures of image, success, and perfection. We may be silently searching for something real—climbing our own symbolic trees. The good news: Jesus sees us first, and He still seeks and saves the lost. His invitation isn’t conditional; it’s grace in action. The story of Zacchaeus reminds us that salvation isn’t earned—it’s received. Will we come down from our trees and let Jesus in?
